Standard Chinese Hanyu Pinyin is the "standard English" complementary specialized study of the textbooks for the Chinese Phonetic Alphabet can be in the "standard English" before learning the first book alone, but also with the "standard English" the first part of the register of co-ordination of the use of phonetic, but also can be used as textbooks for learning Chinese Pinyin entry for independent use.
The People's Education Press is in the process of revising the Standard Chinese textbook series. The revised series includes 9 textbooks, 9 teacher's books, 12 student workbooks (workbook A and workbook B for each of the first 6 books), and 3 Chinese Reader (one for each of the last 3 books).
The revised edition took into consideration of making the series fit both students who have Chinese speaking environment at home and students whose native language is English.
The number of lessons in each book is reduced from 30 to 24. Some outdated texts were removed and new materials were added.
At the end of this series, students are expected to master Chinese Pinyin, about 1800 commonly-used Chinese characters, about 4000 commonly-used words and about 200 basic sentence patterns as well as to master elementary listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This includes the ability to read articles and write short passages or letters of about 300 characters.
We expect the learners of this book will master the Chinese Pin Yin, learn 111 Chinese characters, 171 phrases, 18 sentence patterns, be able to read fluently the texts in each lesson, and be able to imitate the sentence patterns in everyday life.
Standard Chinese is a whole set of Chinese teaching materials published by the People's Education Press. With the support of the Ministry of Education of China and under the guidance of the Office of State Leading Group for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, the Curriculum and Teaching Materials Research Institute has organized textbook specialists and special-ranked teachers to compile these teaching materials. They are prepared for the children of the Chinese students studying in the USA and Canada as well as for those young people who are willing to study Chinese.
Standard Chinese consists of textbooks, exercise-books and teacher's guide books, etc. They are graded into three levels. Each level has three textbooks and every book has 30 lessons. The grammar points are arranged from the easy to the difficult and in a way of developing in spirals, combining with the training of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
The textbooks have a large format of sixteen-mo in color printing with beautiful illustrations and photos. Beautifully designed and beautifully printed, they are very popular among the teachers, parents and students. CD-ROMs for textbooks of Level One have been completed.
The textbooks of Level One have Chinese Phonetic Alphabet for all the texts. Most of the texts are dialogues with characters and situations, close to the children's life.
The textbooks of Level Twohave more and more fairy tales, stories and poems, etc. and the texts have novel, rich and readable contents. In textbooks of Level One and Two, in addition to texts, every lesson has basic sentences, new words, phrases and exercises. Vocabulary and phrases are attached at the end of the book.
On completion of studying Standard Chinese Levels One and Two, the students can learn 2150 frequently-used Chinese words, about 4200 terms and 300 basic sentences with a preliminary capability of listening, speaking, reading and writing one or two paragraphs, simple letters and keeping a diary.
The textbooks of Level Three are for junior high school students. Instead of exercise-books, they have Chinese Reader. The textbook in this level is divided into six integrated units. Every lesson has a text, new words and terms, illustrative phrases and exercises. The textbooks are suited to the characteristics of the students' age and mentality, having variety of text contents and practical and interesting exercises, with special attention paid to develop the students' learning ability and creativity.

Learn Chinese with Me is a series of textbooks designed specifically for high school students, aged between 15 and 18 years old, whose native language is English.
This series of textbooks is part of a major project sponsored by China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.
This series of textbooks guides the students from beginner to intermediate level. The compiling principle is to foster high schools students’ interest in learning Chinese. The content is natural, interesting, and arranged in accordance with the rules of learning a second language. To cope with the general needs of conducting daily communication, the sentence patterns and grammar are presented to students in an order that emphasizes functional usage, and the language materials are arranged within situational topics.
The entire series of Learn Chinese with Me is composed of 12 books, including 4 Student’s Books, 4 Teacher’s Books, 4 Student’s Workbooks, and other phonetic and listening materials, as well as multimedia materials supplemented to the Student’s Books.
The series meets the needs of teaching Chinese to 9-12 graders in English-speaking schools and communities.

Level 1 (book 1): 108 characters, 171 words, and 93 sentence patterns.
Level 2 (book 2): 206 characters, 203 words, and 123 sentence patterns.
Level 3 (book 3): 206 characters, 280 words, and 123 sentence patterns.
Students are required to be able to recognize and be able to read the above mentioned characters. Students are expected to be able to write 70-80% of these characters.
Content of the textbooks
1. Conversation
The series focuses on conversations. Each textbook contains 8 unites, of which each covers 1-2 topics. For example, the first unit in book 1 covers the topics of My Family, School Life, and Time and Weather. Each unit contains 3 lessons and there are 24 lessons in each book. As the level increases, the use of the Chinese language is expanding and the level of difficulties is also increasing.
2. Grammar
Considering the age of the students, progress, and objectives, Chinese language grammar is not discussed in the series. However, in the compiling of the series, consideration was given to helping students master the basic skills of using the Chinese language.
3. Phonetics
The series does not contain lessons specifically teaching the Chinese phonetics. The phonetics is taught as students learn the Chinese characters and vocabularies. Meanwhile, in order to help teachers teach phonetics, every book includes a Chinese Pin Yin table.
4. Chinese characters
The requirement for learning the Chinese characters are primarily recognizing and speaking them correctly. Some characters are selected for practicing the writing skills. In general, 5 characters in each lesson are chosen for writing (there are less than 5 characters in book 1 and the number increases as the level increases).
5. Language skills.
The series put a heavy focus on language skills. The exercise in each lesson covers five areas, Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Translating.
Other supplementary materials
In order to help teachers deliver the lesson more effectively, some supplementary materials are prepared.
1. Teaching posters. There are 10 posters in each set, including Numbers, Time, Dates, Weather, Food, Room, etc. It also includes the Chinese Pin Yin poster.
2. Vocabulary cards. There are 102 cards for book 1, 127 cards for book 2, and 93 cards for book 3).
3. CD. There is one CD for book 1, one for book 2, and 2 for book 2. Each CD contains lessons in the book and some listening and exercise materials.

The Illustrated Chinese Dictionary for Children is an ideal dictionary for young readers. It contains the Chinese characters and expressions frequently used in primary school textbooks. Over 1,600 words and 1,700 pictures are included in the dictionary.
Chinese Picture Dictionary for Beginners is a reference book for foreigners to learn basic Chinese. It helps them to recognize the form of the Chinese characters, pronounce them accurately and understand their meaning, which will lay a foundation for using the Chinese language correctly.
The dictionary contains more than 1600 entries. It provides about illustrations to help the learners understand the words and phrases correctly and easily, as the audio-visual images define them directly and vividly. The pictures and verbal definition are mutually complementary. There are also 20 inserted pages of colored pedicures showing classified plants and animals.

Chinese 2008 is a series of compact handbooks for practical Chinese communication. It includes 5 seperate books:"Basic Chinese","Daily Chinese","Travel Chinese","Sports Chinese", and "Transportation Chinese." The target readers are those foreigners who come to China to travel, study or work, and those who hope to learn Chinese and explore China. Its goal is to provide instant help to readers in their everyday communication during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In addition, it can serve as a textbook for short-term adult training programs. The series has been developed on the basis of real life in contemporary China during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Each lesson consists of four parts: "Basic Sentences," "Dialogues," "Additional Expressions," and "Tips." This series includes 600 frequently used Chinese sentences, and 300 situational conversations, which should be able to cover the basic needs of our foreign friends in their daily communication in China. Printed as small paper-backs, the books will be convenient and easy to carry.
